From the Randolph Hotel. Plain awnings and caravans fill much of St Giles' in this view taken at 1pm on 1st September 1869. Attractions included menageries, moving waxworks, two Suffolk Giants, roundabouts and stalls selling cheap goods called fairings. Local pubs provided open air drinking saloons, and lots of people drank too much.
