Caption: The extensive underground stone quarries at Corsham were acquired in 1938 as bomb-proof depots, and by 1943 the Central Ammunition Depot was the largest in the world. The site continued in use during the Cold War. This winch made by Henry Sykes dates from about 1938 when the tunnels were first acquired by the military.
