Caption: Yanrnbury Castle is a multiphase, multivallate hillfort of around 28.5 acres. A 1991 survey by RCHME showed the castle to have over 130 probable structures within its grounds, including Iron Age round houses and Roman material. Easily the most prominent feature is a rectangular area measuring 129x90 metres consisting of 16 low mounds. These are sheep folds: the Castle was used for the bi-annual Winterbourne Stoke sheep fair until 1916.
