This brick-built tower mill has a plaque above the door giving it a date of 1779. This in fact refers to the casing in brick in that year of an existing wooden smock mill on the site. The octagonal mill is the only survivor of a group of three similar drainage mills. It suffered storm damage in the 1930s and has not operated or been repaired since.
